Our History and Credentials

GECL is an innovative little software house, based in New Zealand.  We have accumulated considerable experience in commercial software development since we began in 1985.  This has included both packaged and customized software.

Our initial professional practice software was written for a DOS environment in 1990, and used mainly by chartered accountants in New Zealand and Australia.  The Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 version was written specifically for industries other than chartered accountants, and first released in early 1998.  We deliberately restricted sales of this to the local New Zealand market for the first two years, but have recently opened it up for use internationally.

Currently, the biggest site running our Time & Cost software was originally a New Zealand Government department that has subsequently been privatised.  It runs a bureau processing Timesheets from 125 staff nationwide.  Most of our other users are professional practices such as consulting engineers, surveying firms, architects, lawyers, and business consultants.  These sites typically range in size from five to forty staff, but we do also have some "sole traders".

The recent release of our Windows Creditors module serves larger firms who have a significant volume of supplier invoices that need to be on-charged.  It also opens the software up to contractors, the construction industry, and other service industries, where client invoices are all job related but contain a sizeable proportion of materials, sub-contracted work and other expenditure, that must be tracked to respective jobs, and on-charged through invoices raised by the Time & Cost module.

GECL was founded in Wellington in late 1985, and relocated to Auckland in 1987.  Its primary focus in the early years was contract software development.  In 1989, we shifted our emphasis to the development of standard software packages.  Work commenced on the first of these modules ("Client Admin") in early 1990. We sold our first "Time & Cost" in late 1990, and our first "Sales Admin" in late 1992.

The Present and Future

The software has been well received by our existing users.  It is enjoying steady interest in a number of industries, as the product is becoming more widely known.  We are progressively establishing a happy user base that can be viably supported for many years to come.
